Cat Woman Deluxe Adult Costume

I remember when I was young how we could not wait until the new Batman comic books would come out.  One of his greatest foes was Catwoman. DC Comic books first introduced her in 1940… she has held up pretty well for the last 69 years don’t you think! :)   Catwoman was an inspiration of one of the co-creators when he thought of his second cousin.  Isn’t it nice to be immortalized forever in this superhero/antihero genre?

When she first appeared, she was known as The Cat. She was given the name Selina Kyle a very talented thief with a whip that she carried with her on high society heists.  She has always been one of Batman’s chief antagonist and sometimes rumored to be Batman’s recurring love interest.  She was first thought of by her creators as being the antihero type rather than a villain and someone that Batman would try to reform.  That is why they never portrayed her as a killer nor totally evil.  The creators also decided to make her costume a cat because it was diametrical to bats.  Catwoman has become one of the most popular “villains” and to this day, her iconic costume and look have been a major part of Halloween and many of the Halloween parties throughout the world.

As the Batman franchise became more popular, we saw many new bad guys and girls hit Batman’s radar.  BUT… the one adversary who kept popping up time and time again throughout the 69 years was Catwoman.  She was played on TV by Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, and Eartha Kitt…my favorite?  Julie Newmar!  Of course on the big screen, she was played brilliantly by Michelle Pfeiffer and the sexy Halle Berry.  The Catwoman franchise became so popular that in 1993 she got her own comic book and her character and background were recreated.  Here is the most recent clip from the Catwoman movie played by Halle Berry:

I just read that Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman costume brought in $8,260.00.  It was the most money paid for any outfit in this auction.  The Cat Woman outfit along with two hundred other costumes at the Hollywood Wax Museum brought in more than half a million dollars.  It doesn’t surprise me to hear that her costume brought in so much money.  After all, her portrayal of Catwoman in the Batman movie was the best acting job by a ‘villian’ out of all the Batman movies.   I remember when Michael Keaton was asked how much he liked playing Batman and his response to the press was, “Come on…guys…how would you like to be on set holding Michelle Pfeiffer all day!”  Great line!  I think that Michelle was the best Catwoman so far.

There have been rumors swirling around about another movie with some of the actresses of Hollywood playing the Cat Woman role.  Some of the names that are excited to be considered are Kate Beckinsale, Charlize Theron and Meagan Fox.  I watched Kate Beckinsale in the Underworld series and I think that she could pull off wearing the cat outfit and bringing her unique acting talents to the role.

Why are we so fascinated with this great Halloween costume every year and the movies and TV series that were spawned from it?  Our culture has grown to appreciate the strong independent woman that this iconic anti-hero and outfit represents.  Catwoman has always been shown as a victim of society’s ills and through grit and guts has survived.  Although the movies have portrayed her as a conflicted person, when faced with dangerous circumstances, Cat Woman does not let “the better angels of our nature” stop her from taking care of business! :)   Granted, her actions are always self serving but as her story has been told, the circumstances of her life have led her to be this slightly unstable action figure.

The Cat Woman Costume has become one of the most popular antihero and iconic costumes and has been a major part of Halloween and many of the Halloween parties throughout the world.  No matter what you may think of her, Catwoman will always play a major roll in the Batman stories and will forever be one of the world’s favorite feline stars!

Update:  Julie Newmar was in the news this month due to a man that was charged with stealing $25,000 worth of jewelry from her.  Ms. Newmar had been surfing the internet when she found that some of her most popular items were up for sale on Ebay!  She immediately called the authorities and the auction was traced back to a former associate of Ms. Newmar’s named Robert Ouriel.  The authorities found that Mr. Ouriel had sold the jewelry to a pawn shop in Illinois and the pawn shop was trying to sell them on Ebay.

I am hoping that they revive Cat Woman in the upcoming new Batman franchise film.  I have always wanted them to expand this relationship with the sexy Bruce Wayne and the curvaceous Catwoman!  The script could be where Batman is attacked and captured by a myriad of evil doers such as TheRiddler, or the Penguin or whomever and the feline quasi-hero could swoop in and save the day just before the proverbial chain-saw makes twins of the darknight!  She carries him off to her ‘cat box’ and they proceed to build that all important ‘scratching post’ for both of them! :) (couldn’t resist!)  I look forward to hearing what Warner Brothers has for us down the line!  Maybe, they will take a tip from my playbook and build that relationship with a woman who could completely understand The Bat.
